Der Archetyp oder Archetypus (von griechisch „Urbild“) ist nach C.G. Jung das „kollektive Unbewusste“, also jene Vorstellungen und Anlagen, Ideen und Symbole (siehe Animus und Anima), die allen Menschen gemein sind - unabhängig davon, wo oder wie sie aufwachsen.
Archetypen gründen sich meist auf Ur-Erfahrungen wie z.B. Geburt, Tod, Elternschaft, aber auch Träume, Mythen und Sagen.
