Depression: Area tegmentalis ventralis als Zentrum der Antriebslosigkeit
„Palo Alto – Die Area tegmentalis ventralis, eine Region im Mittelhirn mit einer engen Beziehung zum Belohnungssystem des Gehirns, könnte für die Pathogenese der Depression von zentraler Bedeutung sein. Dies zeigen tierexperimentelle Studien in Nature 2012; doi:10.1038/nature11740). Die Area tegmentalis ventralis gehört zu den Regionen des Mesencephalons (Mittelhirns), in denen die Neuronen über den Neurotransmitter Dopamin miteinander kommunizieren.“
